Freetime activities

In your free time you can do many different things in Finland. Some Finnish young people just hang out with their friends, and some run from one hobby to another. Dancing, snowboarding, aerobics, football and ice hockey are a few hobbies that are common in Finland.

In the summer a very usual sport is fishing. We have many lakes in Finland so it's not so difficult to find a place where you can fish. If you can't find a lake you can always fish in the sea.

Motor racing is also a common sport in Finland.

An excellent freetime activity is swimming and being on the beach. In Helsinki you probably won't find a peaceful beach... So you just have to go to Espoo, witch is near Helsinki. There are nice beaches and beautiful views.

In the winter you could go to Lapland, to Levi for example. It's a skiing centre, where you can do everything between cross-country skiing and snowboarding.

Snowboards

In Levi they also have safaris by snowmobile. If you don't want to go to Lapland but you like snowboarding or skiing you can go some where else for example in southern Finland. You can choose between many alternatives. Vihti is probably nearest to Helsinki.

When you are in Helsinki you could go to the Museum of contemporary art, called KIASMA. It's open every day except Mondays. Finnish young people go there because it's free and because you can use the Internet for free there...

And when you want to go shopping in Helsinki, there are two well known shopping centres "Stockman" and "Forum". In these shopping centers you can find almost anything, so everyone will find something for sure.
There are café's and restaurants in the shopping centers, where young people usually just sit and chat with each other.

The Helsinki Zoo is a nice experience, so if you have the opportunity to go there, GO! You can take the ferry from the Market square or walk over the bridge from "Mustikkamaa" to "Korkeasaari"
From the Market square you can go to other islands too.
Suomenlinna for example is an island, where there are old caves and old buildings & houses. You can spend your time walking around and get more information about Finlands history.

You can go visit our amusement park - Linnanmäki.
